The 1078 model "2-wide" was a replacement for the 1068 model.  Built by New Holland from 1988-1994, it was the last all mechanical machine built. Being a fully mechanical machine, the 1078 offers simplicity and speed without some of the problems a computer system can provide. The 1078 was equipped with a new Ford diesel engine, heavier 5-speed manual transmission, heavier 2-speed rear axle, heavier front axle, and heavier brakes.
